February's DABE event will focus on the changing costs of electricity in Colorado. Originally, we wanted this event to focus on the intersection of electricity pricing and data center's electricity demand on that pricing. However, we began to recognize that, in Colorado in particular, there are other factors that influence electricity pricing, other than data centers. We've now decided to focus on a broader, more balanced discussion on all of the factors that drive electricity pricing in the Colorado market. Some areas of interest that we have include:

Infrastructure & Investment: The impact of aging infrastructure, rehabilitation costs, and how these capital expenditures are passed through to businesses and residential consumers.

Rate Setting & Negotiated Pricing: Insights into how rates are established for large-scale users (like data centers) versus standard commercial/residential users.

Utility Incentives: How the business structures of major providers (such as Xcel Energy) influence the selection of long-term energy generation and transmission projects.

Demand Drivers: While the topic may be broad, we are hoping to understand how emerging demand from data centers and other large energy users (industrial and commercial users) influence overall demand and electricity pricing relative to household/residential demand.

Persons in need of auxiliary aids or services, such as interpretation services or assisted listening devices, are asked to contact the meeting organizer, Karen Mashler at kmashler@drcog.org at least 72 (three business days) hours in advance of the meeting.
