The Denver Regional Council of Governments received a $400,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation 2024 Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program. DRCOG’s project was one of 354 selected nationally and one of 11 in the state of Colorado. 

The award will fund two City of Brighton projects: a multilingual public safety dashboard and an update to the city’s Vision Zero plan.

Brighton’s dashboard will highlight countermeasures used throughout the city to address crashes and enhance safety. Other user-friendly information may include applicable city ordinances and traffic laws , metrics to track reductions in crashes and information on planned construction projects and road closures. The dashboard will also receive safety concerns and project ideas from the community.

The update to the city’s Vision Zero plan will include active modes of transportation and non-city facilities such as highways and interstates. Two focus areas include a more in-depth study along Colorado Highway 7, also known as Bridge Street, including additional countermeasures at the roundabouts at U.S. 85, and an assessment of how school traffic contributes to citywide circulation and safety problems on the streets.
