Economics and Land Use
The socioeconomic team at DRCOG is responsible for land use modeling along with providing economic and demographic data analysis. In addition, we provide technical assistance to our member governments and organizations. Land use forecasting at DRCOG is undergoing significant change with the introduction of the new land use model, UrbanSim. UrbanSim is a parcel-based model that helps better reflect the dynamic interaction of households, firms, real estate markets and the regional transportation system. This tool will better help inform policy makers' decisions with relation to long-run patterns of growth and development.
Want to see UrbanSim data in action? Forecasts from the model were used to create the DRCOG Land Use Explorer, where users can examine forecasts for multiple geographies including zones, municipalities, counties, and urban centers calculated at five-year intervals between 2010 and 2040.
