Boomer Bond
The Denver region is experiencing unprecedented growth in the region’s aging population. DRCOG’s Boomer Bond initiative helps the region’s local governments create age-friendly physical and social environments allowing older adults to remain in their homes and communities for as long as they desire. AARP Colorado has provided support for the design, development and implementation of the Boomer Bond initiative.
Local communities use the Boomer Bond assessment tool to evaluate existing resources, programs, and infrastructure.
Objectives of the Boomer Bond initiative:
- Provide tools and resources to foster dialogue on the impacts of an aging population.
- Provide local governments information to help plan and effectively serve their older residents.
- Provide examples of community features that can benefit older adults as well as people of all ages and abilities.
- Recognize communities working to create an age-friendly region.
- Promote regional cooperation and commitment to creating communities that work for a lifetime.
Investing time in completing the Boomer Bond Assessment Tool can help communities understand its current circumstances and existing resources. Communities could then begin to evaluate its strengths and deficiencies and identify short- and long-term priorities surrounding aging. The information could be used to confidently implement strategies to promote healthy successful aging.
The Lifelong Colorado Initiative has recognized local communities that have participated in the Boomer Bond program.
