Welcome to the new home of the Citizens’ Academy, formerly a program of the Transit Alliance! The Denver Regional Council of Governments is looking forward to continuing the groundbreaking work the Alliance did for so many years engaging metro-area residents in understanding the relationship between transportation and community development.
Transit Alliance was founded in 1997 and introduced the Citizens’ Academy in 2007. When the time came for the Alliance to close its doors in January 2018, its leadership approached DRCOG about the possibility of allowing the Academy to live on. As a longtime partner in and contributor to the Citizens' Academy, DRCOG agreed to organize and host, and are looking forward to continuing this important work.
The first DRCOG-hosted Citizens’ Academy kicks off Sept. 27, 2018 – applications will be accepted starting Aug. 1.
DRCOG will continue the approach and format of the Citizens’ Academy. Each course will include seven weekly three-hour sessions consisting of lectures from subject matter experts, small group interactions and networking. Beyond those group sessions, participants will develop individual action plans to put into place upon graduation from the Academy.
We look forward to adding more informed and active citizens to the 800-plus strong pool of Citizens Academy alumni!
Stay tuned! More information and applications will be available Aug. 1.
“The Citizens’ Academy will live on in the very capable hands of our regional partner DRCOG, the right partner to honor the program, its alumni, and its future. There isn’t a program like the Academy anywhere else in the nation and as the creator, I believe it can find continued success at DRCOG with its established, respected, and trusted brand of truly engaging our citizens in the future of the region.” – Kathleen Osher
