What is the Transportation Improvement Program and why does it matter?

The Denver region's shared regional transportation system affects residents and visitors every day, and improving the system can improve their lives. DRCOG's Transportation Improvement Program process selects and funds projects that are important and valuable not only to the region, but to each local government. Much of the funding comes from federal agencies which require projects be selected through a competitive, regional process. It’s also how the Denver region implements the fiscally constrained short-range transportation plan by identifying the federal, state and regionally significant locally funded transportation projects planned for the region over a four-year period.

The projects in this Transportation Improvement Program have been selected as the result of four calls for projects covering 2022-2027, and have been carried over as appropriate from the current 2022-2025 Transportation Improvement Program. DRCOG develops and adopts a new Transportation Improvement Program every two years in order to keep the funding years of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program and the Transportation Improvement Program aligned.
