February 3, 2018 - Advocacy and American Heart Month

Description:
Jayla proudly introduces Murphy to Bob Roth, chair of the Denver Regional Council of Governments Board of Directors. Bob is also the representative for Ward V on the Aurora City Council and has served on a variety of boards and committees in addition to his day job as a construction consultant. Bob explains many of Aurora’s efforts to support their senior citizens, including helping seniors stay active and involved in the community and to age in place. Bob and Jayla also discuss their recent trip to Washington to educate our national representatives on key issues and needs for our community. February is American Heart Month. Murf and Jayla kick off the celebration of life with Mary Bateman, a survivor of congenital heart disease and relates her story over 8 years and 2 heart surgeries. They also discuss the difference in symptoms of heart disease between men and women and note that it is much harder for women to recognize the symptoms. How can you prevent heart disease? Mary recommends knowing your key numbers and taking care of your own health.
