Event Details
Despite growth in the Denver region, some metro area school districts face declining or uneven student enrollment. Some face the prospect of closing neighborhood schools, while others face increasing enrollment and struggle to expand schools. Beyond educating pupils, schools offer gathering places, employment opportunities, nutrition and physical activity programs and a sense of community identity. While local government planners consider the long-term role of schools in communities and neighborhoods, school district planners often conduct their work in light of nearer-term limitations on funding and enrollment.
Learn from school planners around the Denver region about long-range enrollment forecasting and the connection between school planning and long-range land use planning. Panelists will tell the stories of Denver metro area school districts and share opportunities for coordination with city and county planning staff.

APA Public Schools Interest Group
Created in 2015, the Public Schools Interest Group seeks to connect public school districts and local planning departments on issues that affect students and families.
The Environmental Protection Agency created this tool to help school agencies and other local government agencies work together to better align school siting and other community development decisions.
