Planning for Wildfire: A Growing Threat to our Region
In the past decade, wildfires have gained the attention of urban planners as a serious issue facing development in what has come to be known as the wildland-urban interface - the area where structures and other human development meet or intermingle with undeveloped wildland or vegetative fuels. Attendees learned about the increased risk facing our communities, watersheds, and local governments. We explored regulatory approaches, the relationship between planning and wildfire mitigation activities, and current local government projects and community engagement activities.
