State Health Insurance Assistance Program

Medicare assistance

The Area Agency on Aging offers two Medicare assistance programs: the State Health Insurance Assistance Program and the Senior Medicare Patrol. The State Health Insurance Assistance Program serves Arapahoe, Douglas and Jefferson counties and provides objective information, counseling and enrollment assistance to Medicare beneficiaries.

The program's counselors can address topics such as Medicare benefits, coverage rules, appeal rights and procedures. These program counselors can provide free one-on-one insurance counseling and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and their families. Counselors can assist with the original Medicare program, Medicare Advantage plans — also known as Medicare Part C —and Medicare Prescription Drug plans — also known as Medicare Part D. Additionally, counselors can provide guidance on Medicare Supplemental insurance policies, also known as Medigap.

The Senior Medicare Patrol program focuses on preventing Medicare fraud. Beneficiaries can use this program to protect, detect and report suspected Medicare program abuse. If Medicare fraud is suspected, if a Medicare beneficiary receives a bill for services that did not occur, or if there are suspicious claims on a Medicare Summary Notice, contact 303-480-6835 for assistance.
